Join local arts organizations and Gary Glazner, founder of the internationally acclaimed Alzheimer’s Poetry Project, for a fun-filled morning of creating poetry and song inspired by The Book’s the Thing: Shakespeare from Stage to Page . In this Community-in-Residence event we explore Shakespeare’s famous quotes in an hour-long session of creativity, playfulness and learning. We will create a performance inspired by his Shakespeare’s work.
Community-in-Residence builds on the concept of an artist-in-residence program, which typically invites artists, poets, musicians, academicians, curators, and all manner of creative people, to enjoy a time and space away from the usual environment and obligations. Sessions will use pieces of artwork to spark thoughts and memories from the participants, who will create music, poetry, stories and, sometimes, artwork of their own.
Past Community-in-Residence events have taken place in partnership with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum; Museum of International Folk Art; New Mexico History Museum; Santa Fe Opera and SITE Santa Fe.
Participating organizations include the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project, Lifesongs, Santa Fe Care Center, Vista Living, and the Alzheimer’s Creativity Project.
Worldwide, more than 65 million people live with Alzheimer’s or related dementia illnesses. Increasing research shows that creative arts therapies can help foster engagement, mental stimulation, conversation, self-esteem and self-expression, as well as cope with behavioral challenges and improve overall well-being.
