a Friends of Indian Art Event

Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

Carol Emarthle-Douglas (Northern Arapaho/Seminole) is a Traditional/ Contemporary basket-weaver: traditional because of her coiling technique and contemporary because her materials include spring hemp twine, waxed linen thread, reed, raffia, and silk. Working in this style for over 15 years, her unique creations have garnered numerous awards, including the 2015 SWAIA - Best of Show. Carol has also been the recipient of many Fellowships including the 2016 Dubin Fellowship from the School for Advanced Research. Her basketry is highly regarded among collectors and has been acquired by numerous museums throughout the US, most notably the Brooklyn Art Museum, the Montclair Art Museum, the Autry Museum of the American West, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
