By way of background, The Historic Sites Facebook page has a video tour of the Lincoln County Courthouse where Billy the Kid broke out on April 28, 1881.

On April 28th, 1881, Billy the Kid made his famous escape from the courthouse in Lincoln, NM. This event is arguably one of the most widely-known events in New Mexico’s history, inspiring countless books, plays, movies, and even a ballet scored by Aaron Copeland. Join author and historian Drew Gomber and Tim Roberts, Deputy Director, New Mexico Historic Sites, and for a candid discussion about why this event, and the young man at its center, has captivated the minds and creativity of the public for over 140 years.

Drew Gomber is a widely respected author and historian. He is considered one of the leading experts on the life and times of Billy the Kid.  Tim Roberts is the current Deputy Director for New Mexico Historic Sites and the former manager of Lincoln and Fort Stanton Historic Sites.
