Artist Lecture by Michael Rogers
in conjunction with the museum exhibition Art on the Edge, and the Art Santa Fe art fair

New Mexico Museum of Art

Michael Rogers is a professor at the School of American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Previously, he lived and worked in Japan for eleven years as head of the glass program at Aichi University of Education, Kariya.

Rogers’s approach to art is as “visual poetics.” His work on view in Art on the Edge is a tribute to the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. Excerpts from Neruda’s poems about the sea are sewn onto cotton banners streaming between cast-glass shells. Michael Rogers’ work is included in the permanent collections of the Osaka University of Arts Museum, Japan; New Orleans Museum of Art (with artist Richard Hirsch); Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh, (with artist Richard Hirsch); Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York; Grand Crystal Museum, Taipei, Taiwan; Museo del Vidrio, Monterrey, Mexico; and Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Denmark.

By museum admission
