Opening Reception for Canvassing the Neighborhood
New Mexico Museum of Art
New Mexico Artists’ Views of Neighborhood Life

Paintings, drawings and photographs presenting multiple views of neighborhood life by New Mexico artists. On display in Santa Fe at the Governor’s Gallery in the New Mexico State Capitol, from April 3 to June 14, 2009. The show highlights works by Teal McKibben, Tim Prythero, Carlotta Boettcher, and Alex Harris with works that range from the surreal to the abstract.

Reception from 4:00-6:00 p.m., hosted by the Women’s Board of the Museum of New Mexico. Gallery hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free admission.

New Mexico Museum of Art
Christy Hengst’s Birds in the Park

Come to watch a one-day installation in the museum’s patio of a flock of porcelain birds that has been making appearances at various sites around Santa Fe and Los Alamos, as well as in San Diego, New York, New Orleans, Germany, and the Galapagos Islands.

The silkscreened birds include appropriated imagery from newspapers about war juxtaposed with texts from contributing poets and other writers. She will install the exhibition Saturday evening at 5pm and deinstall Sunday evening at 5pm.

Saturday, April 18, 5 p.m. to Sunday, April 19, 5 p.m.

Regular museum admission.
