Sunday Adventures in Outdoor Painting

Part One: Hands-on painting instruction en plein air with Lee Rommel, on location in downtown Santa Fe. Each class is designed to take you through a complete painting experience in one afternoon.

Classes begin at the museum with a viewing of the exhibition at 2:00 and continue from 3:00 to 5:00 on location around downtown Santa Fe.

The 4th annual Palace of the Governors Gem and Mineral Show kicks off at 9 a.m. Friday, June 19, under the welcoming shade of the Palace Courtyard. This free, three-day event features only authentic, natural gems and minerals traditionally used in Southwest jewelry making. Come to look, come to touch, come to buy, but most important, come to learn more about the historic interplay between miners, mineral traders and the artisans who bring life to these fruits of the earth.

Select objects and historic images from the Carlsbad Museum and Art Center, the Farmington Museum, the New Mexico State University Museum, and the Roswell Museum and Art Center. 

The exhibition will be on display in the Governor's Gallery through September 11, 2009.

Reception from 4:00-6:00 p.m., hosted by the Women’s Board of the Museum of New Mexico. Gallery hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free admission.

Join author and historian Nasario Garcia for a lecture and booksigning of "The Naked Rainbow and Other Stories/El arco iris desnudo y OTros Cuentos," at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, in the Learning Center of the New Mexico History Museum. Dr. Garcia, a native of the Rio Puervo Valley southeast of Chaco Canyon, is a popular author and lecturer, has taught at New Mexico Highlands University.
