Dancing Shadows, Epic Tales: Wayang Kulit of Indonesia opens Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a reception hosted by the Women’s Board of the Museum of New Mexico and a performance by Gamelan Encantada, puppet making for all ages.  By Museum admission, New Mexico residents with I.D. free on Sundays, youth 16 and under, foundation members and Rail Runner ticket holders admitted FREE!

Join author Flora Clancy for a discussion about her book, "The Monuments of Piedras Negras, an Ancient Maya City." Treated as documents of an ancient past, Maya relief-carved monuments provide much social and cultural information. In this book, however, the monuments of Piedras Negras are also treated as works of art, resulting in more nuanced types of information. This event takes place in the Lew Wallace Room of the Palace of the Governors.

The lecture will be held at the New Mexico Film Museum, 418 Montezuma Ave., in Santa Fe.
