Blazing New Trails through New Mexico Historic Sites

Speakers Patrick Moore, Director, New Mexico Historic Sites, NM Department of Cultural Affairs, and Timothy Roberts, Manager, Central Mountain Region, New Mexico Historic Sites, NM Department of Cultural Affairs, join the New Mexico History Museum to share on the connecting of state heritage through conversations on contested space.

Following a major reorganization in 2016, the Historic Sites Division embarked on an ambitious effort to redefine the interpretive vision of preserving and sharing New Mexico’s rich history to visitors while elevating the stories of the individual sites to new levels.   This presentation will detail not only the new directions that Division Director Moore and his regional managers brought to the sites, but also how perspectives on considering “contested space” shaped the conversations in telling New Mexico’s complicated past.

Free auditorium event- doors open at 11:30.

Limited seating, first come-first served, bottled water only.

MIAC Curators Examine Your Treasures

MIAC Curators gather in the lobby of the Museum on the third Wednesday of each month awaiting whatever treasures may walk through the door. This is your opportunity to bring a family heirloom, something special from your collection, or a piece you know nothing about. Naturally, they prefer items from the American Southwest (in keeping with the museum’s focus), but they will check out anything you bring in.

Federal law prohibits curators from "appraising" any items, but they will direct you to appropriate resources. For more information, visit this page: http://indianartsandculture.org/lets-take-a-look
