Defining the Colonial World: Don Bernardo de Miera y Pacheco

Santa Barbara, circa 1770. Pine, gesso, oil paint, 21¾ x 15¾ in. This retablo created by Don Bernardo Miera y Pacheco, recently joined the History Museum’s collections and is on display in the Tesoros de Devoción exhibition in the Palace of the Governors. Santa Barbara's traditional iconography includes the tower where she was confined by her father.
