MIAC to Receive Multiple Grants to Support Upcoming Exhibitions

The Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC) is excited to announce that the museum will be receiving total of $80,000 in grant funding to support upcoming exhibitions.

MIAC has been awarded  a $40,000 planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support the upcoming exhibition Celestial Bodies: Native Astronomy of the US Southwest. This planning grant will allow curator Dr. Maxine McBrinn, the project team, and a diverse array of humanities scholars and consultants to ensure that the exhibition’s content, format, and interpretive approach will bring humanities ideas and insights to life for general audiences.

The museum has also been approved for a $35,000 Grants for Arts Projects award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support Painted Reflections: Isometric Design in Ancestral Pueblo Pottery. This project will allow MIAC to plan and implement educational and community engagement programs tied to this upcoming exhibitionMIAC’s project is among more than 1,100 across the United States, totaling nearly $27 million,  selected during this second round of Grants for Arts Projects fiscal year 2021 funding.

Additionally, a $5,000 grant from the New Mexico Humanities Council will be used to support opening day programming for Painted Reflections.

MIAC is thrilled to receive these awards for the support of these exhibitions,” said Della Warrior (Otoe-Missouria), Director of MIAC. “The funds will help the museum welcome back visitors to new sights and experiences. MIAC is grateful to the NEH, NEA, and the New Mexico Humanities Council for their continued support.”
