Lecture by Elena Phipps, President, Textile Society of America presents "Cochineal Red: The Global history of a Color"

Reception Hosted by the Women’s Board of the Museum of New Mexico with live music

Painting with cochineal with Charlie Carrillo, Colcha demonstration by Nina Arroyo Wood. Sunday June 21, 2015 2pm Diana Magaloni Kerpel will speak on the Florentine Codex, one of the remarkable accounts of non-western culture documenting Aztec culture. This is the second lecture in a series of four lectures presented in conjunction with the exhibition. Admission is free, every Sunday, for everyone.

Arts Alive! Free, hands on art projects for ages 3 to 103 with no advance registration or materials fee. Groups of six(6) or more please call Patricia at (505) 476-1212 in advance to coordinate participation.

Monday July 6, 2015 International Folk Arts Week 1-4pm Hands-on art making for ages 3 to 103 in conjunction with the exhibition The Red That Colored the World, with gallery tours and artist demonstrations Zarina Kendjaev, Suzani embroiderer from Uzbekistan.

Sunday August 9, 2015 Museum Hill Community Day 2pm Alejandro de Avila will lecture on the cultural identity of cochineal in Oaxacan history and contemporary life, particularly its use in textiles in indigenous communities in Oaxaca. This lecture is supported by the LaFarge Foundation and Connie Jaquith. Sunday September 13, 2015 Red Poetry Slam 1 to 4pm New Mexican poets and spoken word from diverse communities share works about the color red to express its cultural, spiritual and personal significance. FREE Admission
