Addison Rowe Gallery, Chromatic Contrasts
Chromatic Contrasts, highlights painters Beatrice Mandelman and Raymond Jonson. The opening reception is May 1, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. The show closes on August 14, 2015. Also included in this exhibition are Alfred Morang, Emil Bisttram, Jozef Bakos, and Will Shuster.
Barbara Meikle Fine Art, A Passionate Palette
A celebration of unrestrained, vibrant color is the constant at Barbara Meikle Fine Art in this annual one-woman exhibition showcasing her vigorous, expressive application of thick paint and splashes, and unbridled, exhilarating color saturation.
Bellas Artes Gallery, EL ORO + EL COLOR
The world renowned Colombian artist, Olga de Amaral, uses fiber, paint, and metallic leaf — most often gold — to transform a typically two-dimensional medium into a fully realized sculptural presence. In this latest exhibition, Olga de Amaral continues to create what she calls “golden surfaces of light.”
Canyon Road Contemporary Art, Color Triangles
This exhibit explores three-color palettes in various genres and introduces abstract expressionist painter Bonnie Teitelbaum (May 25 through June 29). From June 30 through Labor Day is a three-artist show (Kathy Beekman, Mark Horst, Joy Richardson) where the artists investigate three different genres in Color Triangles.
Catenary Art Gallery, Charcoal and Crimson
Charcoal and crimson are the metaphorical colors of scorching and fire–and of resilience and revival–seen in this summer exhibitions focusing on the Southwest landscape with local artist Scott Swezy and Rumi Vesselinova’s photographs.
Charles Azbell Gallery, Colorist Charles Azbell
Azbell paints in colors that are bold, intense, dimensional, and alive with energy with works celebrating 25 years in an exhibition from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Charlotte Jackson Fine Art, Pure Color by artist Anne Appleby
Anne Appleby is inspired by nature and the subtle ways that light influences how we see the landscape. Her monochromatic paintings combine oil and wax with concentrations of color at the center that dissolve into progressively luminous shades towards the edges of the canvas. May 1 through May 31 with an opening reception with the artist, Friday, May 1, 5 to 7 p.m.
David Richard Gallery, Post-Op: ’The Responsive Eye’ 50 Years After
The use of color in the landscape and abstract contemporary art is explored in three exhibitions: Post-Op: ‘The Responsive Eye’ Fifty Years After, features mid-1960s and later career artwork from artists who participated in MOMA’s The Responsive Eye (1965); Santa Fe artist Meridel Rubenstein’s photographs explore the interface of people and the landscape with color-packed images of forests, deserts, and coastlines; painter Stephen Hayes debuts colorful and impressionistic representations of the landscape.
Ellsworth Gallery presents...
On July 17 at 3 p.m.; Artist Talk with Elise Ansel: Reimagining the Renaissance and Baroque Color Palette; on August 15 at 3 p.m. a lecture by Barry Ellsworth on Color in Japanese Art; on August 29 at 3 p.m. an artist talk and painting demonstration by Kathryn Stedham.
Evoke Contemporary, Monochromatic
This group exhibition includes artists working in tints, tones, and shades of a single hue. Featured are many drawings and works excelling in draftsmanship and skill in execution and use of chiaroscuro and expression with a minimized palette. The closing ceremony for MONOCHROMATIC is Saturday, June 20, 4 to 6 p.m. with a panel discussion featuring several of the participating artists.
Gallerie Zuger, Red
This group show features artists who favor this summer’s hot color; red. Opening June 1 and running through August 20.
Gaugy Gallery, Trois Mois de Couleurs
Trois Mois de Couleurs (3 Months of Colors) is an invitational featuring more than 20 artists, opening June 1 and running through August 31. Each month will be devoted to artworks with a palette focused on a specific hue. June is blue, July is red, and August is green.
Giacobbe Fritz Fine Art, The Fanciful Feast
Coral is featured in the first summer show called The Fanciful Feast. Works by oil painter Bradford Salamon–food and feast-related in a luscious, palette-knife style on view coincide with the annual ArtSmart charity event—T he Edible Art Tour. Opens Friday, June 12, with the Edible Art tour on the following evening, Saturday, June 13.
Greenberg Fine Art, Euphorie de Couleur
Euphorie de Couleur presents works by master painter Joseph Breza. He works in a world of vibrant palettes, dramatic landscapes, and sweeping emotional skies. With every curled brushstroke in a lavender cloud against a fiery backdrop, you see his studied understanding of New Mexican sunsets.
GVG Contemporary, WHITE
WHITE is both the title and theme of an exhibition of new paintings by Blair Vaughn-Gruler. Vaughn-Gruler’s minimalist-inspired paintings are at once muscular and delicate, exploring structure, space, compulsion, and deconstructed geometry with a (mostly) white or neutral palette. The opening reception is on August 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Heidi Loewen Porcelain Gallery & School, Crimson Red
Artist Heidi Loewen is intrigued with the vast array reds existing in nature. In this show Loewen exhibits examples of her smoke firing, smothered with red shades of wax and oil paint. On other sculptures, such as the "Candy Apple," the artist explores a deep red over 22 Karat Gold Leaf. She will demonstrate at her pottery wheel during the exhibition.

Lacuna Gallery, People, Places and Art

Little Bird at Loretto, Colors of the High Desert
Experience high desert colors on the gallery’s outdoor patio with artists painting and with music and poetry readings. On this summer view are award-winning painters David K. John, Michael Horse, and Mary Hunt, and jeweler Ray Tracey.
The Longworth Gallery, The Kaleidoscope of Colours!
The kaleidoscope’s colors are infinite, in constant motion, excite and calm, and encourage us to recall a more innocent time. A group artist opening reception is on Friday, May 23, 5 to 8 p.m. One of the most sought after kaleidoscope artists in the United States will be here during the Memorial Day weekend to demonstrate various aspects of making kaleidoscopes.
Manitou Galleries, Yellow
This solo exhibition of paintings by Kim Wiggins explores bold and varied colors in striking paintings of the American West. In the artist’s work, one sees the blazing yellows of Aspen leaves during the peak of the New Mexico autumn, the deep unrivaled blue of our skies, and the fiery colors that can only be seen in a Santa Fe sunset.
Mark White Fine Art, White
For Summer of Color, Mark White Fine Art is thinking “white” — not just a hue, but as a starting point – a blank slate onto which any number of colors, ideas and designs can be displayed. On one June weekend, artists will be in the gallery’s spacious front garden demonstrating and children can take part in a hands-on art project they will be able to take home.
Matthews Gallery, THE ARTIST’S TOOLKIT: New Mexico Artists at Work
This June 4 through 10 exhibition features rare artifacts of legendary New Mexico artists alongside their work, giving visitors insight into the complex process of conceptualizing, mixing, and applying color. View Tommy Macaione’s paint palette, John McHugh’s brushes, Alfred Morang’s notes on color, Hilaire Hiler’s color wheel, and other behind-the-scenes ephemera from Santa Fe private collections. A special reception for THE ARTIST’S TOOLKIT is on Friday, June 5 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Meyer East, Spectrum
Featured work by some of the gallery’s most vibrant and colorful artists including Robert LaDuke, David Jonason, David Dornan, Natalie Featherston, and Melinda K. Hall. On the following Friday evenings join us for cocktails and music: June 19 – Robert LaDuke; July 3 – David Dornan; July 17 – David Jonason; July 31st – Melinda K. Hall; September 28 – Natalie Featherston.
New Concept Gallery, Intensity
Many of the gallery artists on view this summer will show paintings with intense color and form. Gallery photographers will also be showing contrasting black and white images. Whether the works are strong abstractions by Kathleen Doyle Cook, brilliant fall foliage by Cecilia Kirby Binkley, or the bold plant forms by Ann Hosfeld, they are all intense, colorful images.
Patina Gallery, The Couleurs Of Life
Eight couleur-inspired exhibitions throughout 2015 bring the natural world to striking, lustrous, soul-stirring life. From cerulean skies to vermillion sunsets, from fields of verdigris to the umber earth itself, Patina will welcome extraordinary European and American artists who celebrate nature’s stunning palette in multimedia, sculpture, and fine art jewelry.
photo-eye Gallery, Gold
photo-eye features the color gold in an exhibition of gallery artist Kate Breakey’s work – including gold leaf photographs and hand-colored photographs. The exhibition open reception is July 10 in conjunction with a class the artist will be teaching at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops.
Pippin Contemporary, The Art and Soul of Color
The Art and Soul of Color opens Friday, June 19, from 5 to 7p.m. with a collaborative exhibition between glass artist Suzanne Wallace Mears and mixed media painter Stephanie Paige. Inspired by nature, Stephanie’s vivid yet meditative abstractions evoke a feeling of tranquility and Suzanne’s whimsical masks and undulating vessels thrive on colorful abstraction and uneven textures.
Pushkin Gallery, Line and Color: Modernist Paintings and Works on Paper
Focusing on red, Line and Color showcases works on paper as well as Impressionist and Mid-Century avant-garde Russian masterworks; including artists Boris Chetkov, Nikolai Timkov, Vasily Golubev and American sculptor Milton Hebald.
The Russian Art Gallery, Memories of Golden Summer
Featured are luminescent and textured works in a variety mediums and genres by emerging and established contemporary Russian artists, among others, Anatoly Kostovsky or Murat Kaboulov. Summer scenes of St. Petersburg or Siberia, Moscow, or Crimea provide an opportunity to turn our attention toward natural light and this exhibition brings the outdoors in.
Selby Fleetwood Gallery, Color: An Invitation
Color, or its absence, is a doorway to your art experience – attracting with all its emotional potential. Visit this historic adobe gallery and green garden space and view 16 contemporary artists’ interpretation of the world. July 3 is the opening reception for Kevin Box’s "Light Conversation" sculpture.
Sorrel Sky Gallery, Ben Nighthorse: A One-Man Show
This Ben Nighthorse: A One-Man Show opens August 21, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Jewelry artist, Ben Nighthorse will present the richness of gold through his designs when he returns to the Santa Fe Indian Market bringing a golden end to the summer with jewelry selections from one of the top Native American designers today.
Tai Modern, Black & Gold
Tanaka Kyokusho’s solo exhibition opens with an artist’s reception on Friday, July 31, 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition runs through August 16 with an artist’s demonstration on Saturday, August 1, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Kyokusho employs a distinctive black and gold palette in creating bamboo sculptures in which sleek, minimal forms meet with traditional craftsmanship.
Tansey Contemporary, Absence of Color: White
This group exhibition of works by mid-to-late career artists explores the color white through the intersection of fine craft and contemporary art form – texture, technique, and tactile expression of works in glass, porcelain, clay, paint and textile. The preliminary artists list is Udo Noger, Clea Carlsen, Lesley Richmond, Eunsuh Choi, Nuala O’Donovan, and Giles Bettison.
Tresa Vorenberg Goldsmiths, Santa Fe Sunsets
A summer-long show featuring the luscious gems of Santa Fe sunsets at Tresa Vorenberg Goldsmiths. Wildly imaginative handcrafted designer jewelry by over 35 artists. Celebrating love for over 40 years.
Ventana Fine Art celebrates color with five exhibitions:
Kinetic Color, a two-person show of new paintings by Frank Balaam and Angus. Opening reception for the artists on Friday, June 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. and running through June 23. Cosmopolitan Color Contemporaries presents new works by two modern masters, John Axton and Jennifer Davenport, with an opening reception on Friday, June 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. Colors Remembered and Imagined, a two-person show features new paintings by Doug Dawson and Tamar Kander. Opening reception on Friday, July 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. Strength and Movement in Living Color showcases paintings by Jean Richardson and sculptures by Rebecca Tobey. Opening reception on Friday July 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. A Force of Color and Spirit honors the legendary master of contemporary colorism, artist John Nieto, with his 29th annual Indian Market solo exhibition. Opening reception Friday, August 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. through September 9.
Verve Gallery of Photography, Cause & Effect
On view June 26 through September 5 are environmental photographers Daniel Beltra, Chris Jordan, Jamey Stillings, and Wyatt Gallery, who focus on the effects of man-made global warming. Opening reception, Friday, July 17.
VIVO Contemporary, Transformations: ViVO in Color
Celebrating artists’ use of color in a show running from June 17 through August 11, opening reception on June 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. Additional Summer of Color events at the gallery will include gallery talks by ViVO artists and a demonstration of the color research of Bauhaus pioneer Josef Albers.
Wade Wilson Art, Color/Paint/Print
Color/Paint/Print opens just before Memorial Day with an exhibition focusing on artists whose vision is influenced by the powerful purity of pigments. Featured artists are Lucinda Cobley, Joseph Marioni, Mark Williams, and Joan Winter, among others.
