Your Guide to Summer 2017 in New Mexico Available Online

(Santa Fe, NM) – Have you ever seen an original Da Vinci? Did you know people used to carve art out of old crates?  Did you know that New Mexico was a magnet for the counterculture movement 1960s? Did you ever hear sounds of nature and think of it as wild music?  And, where did the tradition of smashing a piñata come from?

These seemingly disparate topics all have one thing in common; you can get the answers to these questions and more at one of New Mexico’s museums and historic sites this summer.

This week the Department of Cultural Affairs released its Museum & Historic Site Summer Guide 2017 highlighting summer activities at New Mexico’s eight state-run museum’s and seven historic sites.

The Summer Guide is a colorful, engaging source for information about exhibits, events, and entertainment options available around New Mexico.

Featured prominently in this edition are two cultural collaborations in the capital city. The Summer of 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the fabled ‘Summer of Love’ and there are plenty of educational, enlightening and fun activities to celebrate that milestone in Santa Fe. The preliminary drawings of five centuries of masterful artists can be seen at the Museum of Art at the International debut of Lines of Thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to Now: from the British Museum.  This once in a life-time exhibition is part of Art of the Draw collaboration in Santa Fe.

The Guide features events and activities throughout the state through September. You can download it for free at  http://nmculture.org/guide
