Feed your brain this April at the New Mexico History Museum. Besides terrific exhibits, enjoy these special events:

Wednesday, April 1, noon, “Owning the Sacred: The 1929 Sale of the Santuario de Chimayo”

In 1816, the Santuario de Chimayo was built by a Chimayo family on land reported to deliver miracles to the faithful. By 1929, financial troubles caused the owners to sell it to the newly formed Spanish Colonial Arts Society, which donated it to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Brett Hendrickson delivers a Brainpower & Brownbags Lecture in the Meem Community Room on that sale. An assistant professor of regional studies at Lafayette College in Easton, Penn., Hendrickson is the author of Border Medicine: A Transcultural History of Mexican American Curanderismo (New York University Press, 2014). Enter for free through the museum’s Washington Avenue doors.

Friday, April 3, and Sunday, April 5, holiday hours

The museum will close at 5 pm on Good Friday, April 3. We will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 5.

Wednesday, April 8, 9–10 am, CreativeMornings debut, with Robert Martin

In partnership with Albuquerque’s Creative Startups, the New Mexico History Museum proudly debuts a New Mexico chapter of the international CreativeMornings program. Each month, alternating between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, we’ll offer casual talks for graphic designers, authors, artists and other creative professionals, focused on various themes. On April 8, enjoy pastries and coffee from the Santa Fe Baking Co., and light music by Santa Fe’s Laser Cats. Do a little creative networking and hear a talk on this month’s global theme, Humility, from Robert Martin, executive and artistic director of the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

These events are free and open to the public.

CreativeMornings is a network of 106 host cities around the world. Talks are recorded and posted online. Learn more at www.creativemornings.com and watch the Santa Fe and Albuquerque application videos at https://vimeo.com/118654489 and https://vimeo.com/120385415.
