FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 2, 2016, (Santa Fe, NM) The Museum Hill Partners of Santa Fe are pleased to announce their third annual Museum Hill Community Day on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 9am to 5pm. Admission to the Museum Hill Museums and related activities are free all day.

Comprising the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian, the Museum of International Folk Art, the Museum of Indian Art and Culture, and the National Park Service, the Museum Hill Partners work together to draw tourists and residents to the vistas and wonders of Museum Hill, where one-third of Santa Fe’s museums call home.

“This is a great day for members of our community and visitors to Santa Fe alike to explore the thriving cultural institutions that offer educational experiences, fun activities, and compelling exhibitions,” said Sarah Spearman, Public Affairs Director for the Santa Fe Botanical Garden. “In addition to free access to all museums on Camino Lejo, we have a variety of free activities to suit any interest, whether it’s indigenous food, local flora, or the circus.”

The morning of September 25, the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art features a Matanza, prepared by Steve Otero, who was highlighted in Andrew Zimmern’s Bizzare Foods. Beginning at 9:30am, guests are welcome to enjoy pork, which will be prepared five different ways, with beans, potatoes, and other traditional foods. The cost is $10 for all-you-can-eat.

Many activities run throughout the day, including: trail tours with the National Park Service; family-themed workshops at the Botanical Gardens on native pollination habitats, and exploring flowers and their pollinators; treasure hunting in the Wheelwright galleries; and informational booths related to indigenous foods. The Streetfood Institute food truck from the Santa Fe Community College will be on Museum Hill all day, giving visitors another great option for refreshments.

Some other highlights include circus related activities by Clan Tynker Family Circus at the Museum of International Folk Art, three different storytelling sessions with Joe Hayes at the Wheelwright, and an horno demonstration at the Botanical Gardens at 4pm. The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture offers samples of traditional Native American food including buffalo roast (cooked on site starting the day before), corn, squash, and horno bread, and several performances by comedian Drew LaCapa (Apache).
