Día de Familia: Visiones del Futuro Aug 7, 2022
Día de Familia: Visiones del Futuro
National Hispanic Cultural Center

Join us on August 7 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) for an exciting new Día de Familia, inspired by the Center’s unique Fronteras del Futuro: Art in New Mexico and Beyond art exhibition.

What: The NHCC’s free Día de Familia: Visiones del Futuro event offers families with children of all ages a chance to make a futuristic costume, build a spaceship, and explore creative movement inspired by the NHCC Art Museum exhibit Fronteras del Futuro! The exhibit features artworks that explore the intersections of art, science, technologies (both ancient and modern), cosmic-musings, future-oriented visions, and more.

In addition to activities led by artists in the museum exhibit, visitors will get a full sci-fi experience with music, lights, and action! With the start of the school year around the corner, complimentary school supplies, including pencils, crayons, erasers, and colored pencils, will be given away so that students can start the year with a splash of color.

This is a free ticketed event. Tickets for programming are available on www.nhccnm.org/events. The event is generously sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthy Kids Healthy Families.

Who: Artists from the exhibition Mike Moreno and Ehren Kee Natay will lead family-friendly activities, and free bilingual museum tours will be provided throughout the Día de Familia event. Art educators and NHCC staff will lead the fun and engaging early childhood programming.

When: The event begins at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, and runs until 3:00 p.m. The free bilingual tours of the exhibition will be held at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm and a storytelling presentation by Ehren Kee Natay will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the NHCC art museum.

Where: Día de Familia: Visiones del Futuro will be held at the NHCC Art Museum, located in the Visual Arts Building in the southwest corner of the NHCC Campus. The Center is located at 1701 4th St. SW, with access and parking available from Fourth Street and Avenida Cesar Chavez.

Why: Día de Familia events and other NHCC Education programming are designed to foster exposure to the arts and offer creative learning opportunities for all ages. Look for future Día de Familia events, along with events through the Arte Poquito and Explorar Las Artes programs in the coming weeks and months!
