Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment
National Hispanic Cultural Center

Experience the traditional Nutcracker story with a Nuevomexicano twist this holiday season, as the National Hispanic Cultural Center and Festival Ballet Albuquerque present Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment.

What: Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment, choreographed by Patricia Dickinson Wells. The beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker is transported to territorial New Mexico in the late 1800s, with elements of the state’s heritage and traditions added to the story. These New Mexican touches include Spanish dancers, and characters that include Southwestern snakes, sheep, and shepherdesses, lively fandango dancers, a Storyteller doll with children, Mr. Coyote, and Ms. Roadrunner, all adorned in lavish western Victorian-era costumes.

This production has become an annual family favorite with new characters added each year, the latest addition being a dancing Zozobra. Resplendent in classical tradition, the production of The Nutcracker showcases New Mexico’s unique heritage while maintaining the classical grace of its origins. The production’s unique style has led to it being featured in The Wall Street Journal and other national publications.

This is the only Nutcracker performance in New Mexico to feature a live orchestra, which will perform under the batons of Maestro Guillermo Figueroa and Maestro David Felberg.

Tickets range from $14 to $49, with a $2 discount for seniors, kids 12 and younger, and NHCC members. Tickets are available for purchase at my.nmculture.org/overview/15165.
