Wednesday Walks with a Ranger at Fort Selden
Fort Selden Historic Site

Explore 1400 years of history from the Mogollon to the Spanish to the American military. As early as 400 A.D. Native American farmers, the Mogollon, lived on the same land that would become Fort Selden centuries later. In 1598, the area was known as Paraje Robledo, a welcome paraje, or campsite, on El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. Fort Selden was established in April 1865 and several of the units that served there were African-American only regiments referred to as Buffalo Soldiers. The fort was later abandoned in 1891. Today, ghostly adobe ruins are all that remain, but these guided tours offer visitors a glimpse of the rich history of the Site.

The tours are offered every Wednesday, March 6 - November 20, 9:00-10:00 a.m. and are included as part of general admission, $5 per adult. Children 16 years old and younger are free. NM residents over the age of 60 are free on Wednesdays. Based on tour size and needs, an accessibility vehicle may be utilized for the tour. Call 575-526-8911 for more information.
