The New Mexico History Museum, in partnership with the New Mexico Japanese American Citizens League, presents the third in a series relatedto the internment of Japanese males who were arrested and incarcerated at Santa Fe, one of New Mexico’s four Department of Justice (DOJ) internment camps during WWII. This event is Free With Museum Admission, thanks to generous funding from the New Mexico Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the JACL Legacy Fund Grant.
I. JACL PLAYERS READERS THEATER ~Stories from inside and outside the barbed wire of the Santa Fe Camp include childhood memories of the daughter of a prisoner, sons of camp guards, and a former mayor of Santa Fe.
II. SCREENING: "COMMUNITY IN CONFLICT" ~Director Claudia Katayanagi screens her award-winning documentary film on the Santa Fe Internment Camp and its historical marker, followed by an audience talkback.
III. PANEL DISCUSSION AND DIALOGUE ~Interviewees in the film and the daughter of a Bataan Death March survivor discuss with director Katayanagi the complex issues surrounding the Santa Fe Internment Camp Marker controversy.
