Last day to see the pinhole photography exhibition

Get a last glimpse at Poetics of Light: Pinhole Photography, a mind-blowing exhibition featuring stellar examples of pinhole artistry from the 19th century through today. Nearly 225 photographs and 40 cameras show how a light-tight box pierced by a hole and holding a piece of old-school film can reveal alternate versions of reality. The photographs are drawn from the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives’ Pinhole Resource Collection, the world’s largest collection of pinhole photography.
Admission on Sundays free to NM residents.

Francois-Marie Patorni, a French native and a Santa Fe resident, speaks on "The French in New Mexico," as part of the Brainpower & Brownbags Lecture Series. Patorni is author of New Mexico: The French since the 1500s, which explores 500 years of French, French-Canadian and other French-speaking people in the Land of Enchantment. Uncovered: The Discovery of a Confederate Mass Grave at Glorieta
New Mexico History Museum

In 1987, while building his home in Pecos, Kip Siler discovered human remains. A study soon revealed a mass grave of Civil War Confederate soldiers. Join archeologist Matthew Barbour in a presentation of the excavations and stories that the remains tell about the decisive 1862 battle. Siler will show some of the artifacts in his personal collection with visitors in the Meem Community Room following the talk. Part of the programming series for the museum’s exhibit, Fading Memories: Echoes of the Civil War, a collaboration with the Santa Fe Opera’s debut of Cold Mountain this August.
Special extra: Music performance by Tom Adler from 1-2 pm and following the lecture.

On January 17, from 1:30–3:30 pm, you can learn about the history of hide paintings in New Mexico and see stellar examples, like the legendary Segesser Hides. Celebrated poet and painter John Brandi reads from his newest book, a limited-edition fine-art publication of the Press at the Palace of the Governors. Into the Dream Maze wrote the collection in haibun form about his life and New Mexico. He also illustrated the entries and hand-colored each of the 35 editions.
