Quarantine Diaries Collection

Help write history by adding your story to the Fray Angélico Chávez Library Quarantine Diaries Collection.  

The Quarantine Diaries Collection seeks to assemble the accounts of New Mexicans from around the state during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope it will be a way to capture primary accounts at the time of the event when the experience is the most vivid. The collection focuses on written accounts and is open to all types of entries, whether informational or emotional.

Timothy explored working with clay during his high school years, though he didn’t work with it professionally until about a decade ago. By trial and error, he has learned how to replicate prehistoric and historic Zuni pottery and designs using traditional natural materials collected on the Zuni reservation: clay, pigments, and plants for paint.

Charles King is approaching his 25th year as a leading gallerist in Scottsdale, specializing in the highest quality and most innovative pueblo pottery. King Galleries represents many of today’s leading potters and Charles is known for his in-depth knowledge of the thought process and motivation behind every piece in the gallery. His most recent book, Spoken Through Clay, is already considered a must-have resource. Fortunately for us, Charles opened a sister gallery here in Santa Fe several years ago. As we approach the major art market season, Charles will give us a sneak peek of new trends, upcoming exhibits, and what to expect from both the familiar masters and the emerging new artists. And there may even be an opportunity to meet and mingle with some surprise guest artists!

Chaco Canyon and Cahokia Mounds -- across the Mississippi from St Louis -- were the two great regional centers of America north of Mexico in the 11th and 12th century.  1,000 miles apart, the two cities were exactly contemporary.  Each transformed their respective regions.  This talk will compare and contrast their careers and histories, and explore if and how the two cities might have interacted.

The WORDS on the Edge

Cancelled Exibition opening reception

The WORDS on the Edge portfolio consists of twenty-six poems and lyrical texts that address themes of nature and its irresponsible destruction.

Twenty-six notable poets, artists, and writers were paired with an equal number of highly regarded letterpress printers from four countries, and each pair produced a limited-edition broadside for the portfolio. The Palace Press is represented in the collection by Arthur Sze’s poem, Black Center. All of Santa Fe’s former and current Poets Laureate will read selected poems from the collection, and a few of their own, followed by a lite reception.

Event is free to the public, with limited seating.
