Historical Downtown Walking Tours

Starting from April 13 and continuing through October 17, learn about the history of Santa Fe on a Downtown Walking Tour led by New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governors guides every Monday through Saturday. Gather at the Palace Courtyard’s Blue Gate just south of the History Museum entrance at 113 Lincoln Avenue at 10:15 am. Cost: $10; children 16 and under free when with an adult. Museum guides do not accept tips. (No tours on Saturdays when large events are held on the Plaza, such as Spanish Market and Santa Fe Fiesta.)

Rose B. Simpson – Thinking and Creating Outside the Box!

Friends of Indian Art (FIA) invites their members to a program presenting Rose B. Simpson, a native of Santa Clara Pueblo, who was raised among an extended family of artists. Her mother, Roxanne Swentzell, is a well-known Indigenous ceramic sculptor, and her father, Patrick Simpson, was a contemporary artist working in wood and metal. Rose’s artistic expression has taken forms including sculpting, printmaking, drama and creative writing, as well as music and dance. Being of both Indigenous and Anglo descent, her work often signifies the continual struggle between the two worlds many modern Indigenous people experience. Oblique Views Exhibition OPENING!

Lecture, Dancers, Booksigning, and Hands-on Activities
Sunday, October 25 -- it’s the day to be on Museum Hill for the long-anticipated opening of Oblique Views: Archaeology, Photography and Time.
You’ll see historic images by Charles and Anne Lindbergh side by side with those of contemporary aerial photographer Adriel Heisey -- some of the changes in the landscape (Canyon de Chelly, Chaco Canyon, Galisteo) are profound, others are more subtle.
Photographer Adriel Heisey speaks at 1pm and again at 3pm. The Red Turtle Dancers of Pojoaque and Santa Clara Pueblos will display a butterfly dance, buffalo dance, and rain dance. Dance times are scheduled for 2pm and 4pm.
Of course we’ll have the beautiful hardcover Oblique Views catalog available for purchase, with the contributers all present to sign.
A hands-on photography activity will be offered from 1 - 4pm.
Admission is free on Sundays for New Mexico residents.

At 6 pm, author and folklorist Nasario Garcia tells tales of witches, ghosts and bogeymen inside the spooky Palace of the Governors. A Free Friday Evening event in collaboration with the Museum of Art’s Modernist scavenger hunt and live music.

Party Modernist-style at the Museum of Art and party in the past at the New Mexico History Museum. We’ll have music, candy, treasure hunts, ghost stories, tarot cards and more. And it’s all free, from 5–8 pm, with full access to all of our exhibitions.
