Historical Downtown Walking Tours
New Mexico History Museum
Starting from April 13 and continuing through October 17, learn about the history of Santa Fe on a Downtown Walking Tour led by New Mexico History Museum/Palace of the Governors guides every Monday through Saturday. Gather at the Palace Courtyard’s Blue Gate just south of the History Museum entrance at 113 Lincoln Avenue at 10:15 am. Cost: $10; children 16 and under free when with an adult. Museum guides do not accept tips. (No tours on Saturdays when large events are held on the Plaza, such as Spanish Market and Santa Fe Fiesta.)

Jedidiah Douglas has been a cattle drover his entire life, working as a wrangler on the Goodnight-Loving Trail in 1868. Visit with him as he details the history of the great cattle drives and recounts a life of moving cattle. Scott Green from the NM Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum portrays this engaging character from our ranching past.

Exhibit opening: Photography of Sam Adams

Meet noted photographer Sam Adams at a Meem Community Room exhibit of his works between 1996 and 2005. Adams was one of the first donors to the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives’ Photo Legacy Project, which aims to boost the holdings of contemporary photographers. In 2005, he won the New Mexico Council on Photography’s Eliot Porter Award, and his work has been exhibited at regional museums.

How were these productions staged and what fabulous new technology was used? This event, part of Painting the Divine: Images of Mary in the New World, is free and presented in the History Museum auditorium.

Update: Due to a conflict with the Santa Fe Opera, the original time for this event, Aug. 13, had to be canceled. Miguel Harth-Bedoya graciously offered to move it to 2 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 12, to ensure it happens.
Join distinguished conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya for a multimedia presentation about the music of South American regions connected by the great Inka Trail during the Spanish colonial era. "The Sights and Sounds of the Inka Trail" is part of the exhibition Painting the Divine: Images of Mary in the New World and is presented for free in the History Museum auditorium. Doors open at 1:30 pm.
Harth-Bedoya is the music director of the Fort Worth Symphony and chief conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. He also conducts the world-premiere performances of Jennifer Higdon’s opera, Cold Mountain, at the Santa Fe Opera in August 2015. Harth-Bedoya is also the founder and artistic director of Caminos del Inka, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to performing and promoting the music of the Americas.

Artist’s Talk
Originally from Crystal, NM, on the Navajo Reservation, Roanhorse resides in Santa Fe. The artist draws from his culture, creating new visions of contemporary design. He learned metalsmithing from his father, and has continued to further his knowledge of techniques and designs. He is a painter and a sculptor as well as a jeweler, and his jewelry is often reffered to as three-dimensional sculpture.
Michael has won awards from Indian Market, the Heard Museum, Eiteljorg Museum, and NMAI.
Program held at MIAC’s O’Keeffe Theater.

Join MIAC for one of the most important events of the year -- a panel discussion and book signing with five leaders shaping the future of Native America.
The basis of the program is "Nation to Nation: Treaties Between the United States and American Indian Nations," an exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, and its accompanying book.
Panelists include the esteemed: Dr. N. Scott Momaday (Kiowa), Dr. Suzan Shown Harjo (Cheyenne/Hodulgee Muscogee), Dr. Jennifer Nez Dinetdale (Diné), and Kevin Gover (Pawnee) with Dallin Maybee (Northern Arapaho/Seneca) moderating. Both are attorneys in major cultural leadership roles (as director of NMAI and SWAIA, respectively).
