Join us for a final view of "Stepping Out: 10,000 Years of Walking the West" and a beading demonstration by the talented Nina Sanders (Crow). Having worked at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the School for Advanced Research, and soon - as a curator at Chicago’s Field Museum, where she’ll work on decolonization and reinterpretation efforts for exhibits with Native American themes - Sanders is as popular an artist as she is an academic. She assisted curator Maxine McBrinn with the Stepping Out exhibition. 

As this is the first Sunday of the month, admission is free for all New Mexico residents!

Christmas at the Palace

Santa Fe’s beloved Christmas at the Palace brings the community together for an evening of hot cider, cookies, live music, a chance to operate an antique printing press, old fashioned activities, a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus -- all in the legendary magic of the Palace of the Governors. A free, family event. (Donations of non-perishable food welcomed.)

The History Museum and Palace will close at 3 p.m. to prepare for this event. 

Enter through the Palace at 105 W. Palace Ave. The History Museum will remain closed during the event.

Las Posadas

The annual candle-lit procession of Las Posadas travels around the Santa Fe Plaza and concludes in the Palace Courtyard. This version of an old Hispanic tradition, celebrated around the world, recreates Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to give birth to the Baby Jesus—and includes innkeepers who deny the Holy Family a place of rest. You are invited to stay for carols, cookies and hot cider in the Palace Courtyard. Free.

The History Museum and Palace will close at 3 p.m. to prepare for this event.

Recently featured by Vogue magazine with a pair of her popular beaded Vans sneakers, Holy Bear’s work is very collectible and in high demand. In addition to footwear, she also beads intricate dolls and creates beaded regalia for them to wear.

Our popular Pueblo Pottery Series continues with Martha Romero (Nambe). Pueblo Pottery demos take place in the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture’s Buchsbaum Pottery Gallery. Don’t forget Wednesdays are free for seniors! 

A creative force in her life, Martha’s mother influenced her work from jewelry to pottery. She recalls her mother selling small drums, bears, and turtles under the Portal at the Palace of the Governors. "My heart has always belonged to my mother clay," she states. She has been working at the Poeh Center for 7 years and shows at Indian Market, MIAC’s Native Treasures, the Heard, and the New Mexico State Fair, where she’s won several prizes.
