"Jack" Thorp (N. Howard Thorp, 1867-1940) collected cowboy songs and poems across the west for nearly 20 years, starting in the late 1800s. His most famous book is "Songs of the Cowboy." New Mexico History Museum; courtesy Guy Logsdon.
