Willard Clark. Two-color woodcut with hand coloring. Undated, ca. 1930s
The bulto, bordered by tin candlesticks, reflects Clark’s interest in Hispanic Santa Fe. Clark, who was raised in South America, was fluent in Spanish and felt completely at home in Northern New Mexico. Almost all of Clark’s work, including the commercial, contains elements relating to the Hispanic culture of New Mexico.
