March 20, 2019 (Santa Fe, NM)—The Mid-Century Santa Fe collaboration presents the 2019 Student Art and Design Competition, taking place from March 20 to April 26, 2019. The winning works will be on view from August 1 to August 20, 2019. The collaboration celebrates the works of Lloyd Kiva New (Cherokee), Alexander Girard, and Georgia O’Keeffe for their influence and contributions to New Mexico’s textile, fashion, and visual art landscape. Mid-Century Santa Fe proudly announces these three themes as competitive categories for the student competition, to run in tandem with the collaboration and IAIA’s Visual Voices: Contemporary Chickasaw Art.

The design competition is being sponsored by American Home, New Mexico’s purveyor of fine furnishings with locations in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Farmington. American Home curates a wide selection of home furniture and furnishings, including Mid-Century products for the home. President Kenton Van Harten said, “We have committed ourselves to the communities we serve as demonstrated by our ongoing support of the social services, education and the arts in New Mexico. We are especially delighted to support this student design competition.”

The categories for the competition are as follows:

  • Textiles: Works submitted under this category must be represented as 50% or more as tapestries, rugs, quilts, weaving, beading, glasswork, or otherwise approved dimensional mediums.
