From the works of contemporary New Mexican artists to the renaissance-inspired creations of Michelangelo, for more than 100 years the New Mexico Museum of Art (MOA) has showcased some of the most dynamic and attention-grabbing pieces of art ever produced. Beginning Saturday, Feb. 20, visitors can once again enjoy these exhibits in person as the museum will reopen in accordance with COVID-safe practices and public health measures to protect the well-being of patrons.

Located on the historic plaza in downtown Santa Fe, MOA will be open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Monday. Visitation will be limited to a maximum of 75 people at any one time.

Current exhibitions include “Alcove 20/20 #4,” a series featuring five, small, one-person exhibitions by contemporary artists working in New Mexico. The series highlights the wealth of artistic talent across the state. “Word Play” is an exhibition of more than forty works of art in a variety of mediums and features images by artists who incorporate letters, words, and phrases into their visual creations. Visitors can also take a look at the work of notable artist William Shuster in “A Fiery Light: Will Shuster’s New Mexico.” This exhibition celebrates the centennial anniversary of Shuster’s arrival in the Southwest. It highlights the artistic legacy he developed in Santa Fe and elsewhere throughout the state and emphasizes the significant artistic relationships he forged here.

Cost of admission is $7 for New Mexico residents, $12 for non-state residents. Children 16 and younger are free. Wednesdays are free for state residents 60 and older, while all state residents are admitted free on the first Sunday of each month. New Mexico foster families are admitted free at all times.

The museum gift shop remains closed for in-person shopping, though customers can find this and other Museum of New Mexico Foundation shops online at https://shopmuseum.org/

Performance spaces and theaters, libraries, and collection areas remain closed. The public will not have access to coat checks, lockers, or backpack/purse storage, nor the use of rental equipment such as headsets, portable speakers, strollers, etc., unless required for ADA accessibility. Public programs, special events, and volunteer/docent activities will continue in virtual formats only. Reduced occupancy might result in a wait to gain entry. While queuing for entry, visitors should observe social distancing. Visitors will be required to wear a mask or multilayered face covering.
