Santa Fe, NM – New Mexico Arts, the state arts agency and a division of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, is happy to announce TJ Hilton has joined the Division as the Art in Public Places Project Coordinator. He started in the role on June 27, 2022.

In his new position, and as a steward of the Art in Public Places Act, Hilton will assist sites around the state in acquiring public art for public facilities that receive capital outlay funding, and connect local and regional artists with local municipalities, counties, and tribal governments to purchase and/or commission original works of art for permanent public display on site.

“We are very excited to have TJ join our team, and we look forward to the work we will accomplish in the field,” said Meredith Doborski, director of the Public Art Program.

“TJ’s background and skills are an excellent addition to our strong Public Art team,” said Michelle Laflamme-Childs, executive director of New Mexico Arts. “We look forward to tapping into his experience not only as an arts administrator but as a working artist and creative practitioner!”

Hilton has come to Santa Fe from Austin, Texas, where he previously worked in higher education as a curator, exhibition designer, and professor of studio art. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Texas State University and his Master of Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Albany. Hilton also works as a photographer, videographer, graphic designer, and custom fabricator.

His top reason for moving to New Mexico is the beautiful vistas and outdoor recreational opportunities, but mostly to bring fantastic art to the residents and visitors of New Mexico.

“I’m so excited to be living in and serving the people of the Land of Enchantment!” said Hilton.

On the side, Hilton dabbles in woodworking and metalwork and enjoys creating custom furniture.
