Today, New Mexico Historic Sites (NMHS) announced that Herbert “Bo” Chesney has been hired as acting regional site manager for Lincoln Historic Site and Fort Stanton Historic Site. Chesney started his new role on October 18, 2021.

“We are excited to have Mr. Chesney join NMHS to help strengthen our team,” said Patrick Moore, NMHS executive director.  “Bo has a great track record of building and managing organizations, and he will be a great asset to Lincoln and Fort Stanton both in terms of leadership and overseeing operations.”

As acting regional site manager, Chesney will be responsible for the daily operation of Lincoln and Fort Stanton Historic Sites. He will manage all staff and will be responsible for multiple internal and external duties such as communications, facilities and maintenance, and visitor experience.

Chesney, a graduate of the University of Arizona, completed a degree in electrical engineering and began his career at Steward Observatory designing electronics and systems in support of astronomical research. After several years, Chesney left the observatory to work in the aerospace industry.

Chesney has managed development teams and operations in several industries. Later in his career, Chesney moved into consulting where he provided services in technology strategy development, process improvement, and change management.

“I have always had a passion for history and a strong interest in the roles that both Lincoln and Fort Stanton have played in history,” said Chesney. “Starting out as a volunteer at Fort Stanton and joining the Board of Fort Stanton, Inc., I gained an understanding of the challenges that are facing both historic sites.”
