Albuquerque, NM – Head to the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a celebration of health, art, and delicious food!  

The National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation is hosting a Día de Salud y Matanza from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that at the Center. It’s a free community event aimed at providing healthcare services, resources, and education for the public, especially the medically underserved population. 

This event will focus on overall health and well-being while recognizing the unique health challenges and perspectives within the Hispanic community. It includes a career expedition for students and those who seek careers in the health care industry. Additionally, it allows individuals to learn about various professions and pathways to those fields including the realities of healthcare education and careers. 

Activities and entertainment are included to celebrate and incorporate the influence of Hispanic culture and traditions, promoting a sense of cultural pride, awareness, and empowerment around health and well-being. In addition to healthcare services, the event will include education on the history and traditions of the matanza, a live performance from award-winning artist Roberto Griego, a women’s art show featuring artist Linda Valencia Martinez, food trucks, a lowrider show, and much more!  

On the same morning, the Center is hosting a free community tile-making workshop intended to help beautify one of the campus’s most enduring features: its acequia-inspired public art feature. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., Albuquerque artist Reyes Padilla and the mosaic group ALMA will lead a workshop that allows visitors to create their own mosaic tiles which will later be incorporated into the NHCC’s larger acequia-inspired public art project. No experience is required, and supplies will be provided.
