The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA) announced today that Margaret M. Marino, executive director of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS), will retire effective October 22, 2021.

Marino was appointed in November 2015, bringing with her 30 years of experience as a museum professional. Previously she served for a decade as executive director of the North Museum of Nature and Science in Pennsylvania.

NMDCA Cabinet Secretary Debra Garcia y Griego expressed her gratitude for Margie’s years of service to the museum and wished her the best as she enjoys retirement.

A search for the Museum’s new executive director will begin immediately by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science Board of Trustees. NMMNHS Deputy Director Gary Romero will serve as acting director, ensuring the museum continues to operate smoothly.
