(Santa Fe, New Mexico) – On Sunday, February 2, 2020, at 1 p.m., the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture hosts Dr. Joseph “Woody” Aguilar for “An Indigenous Archaeology of a Colonial Encounter in the Pueblo Southwest,” which is based on Aguilar’s research and fieldwork over the last decade. An enrolled member of San Ildefonso Pueblo, Aguilar received a Doctorate of Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania last year.

(Santa Fe, New Mexico) — From its beginnings in 1989, Here, Now and Always (HNA), a permanent exhibition at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC), emphasized Native knowledge and worldview. In the decades before its opening in 1997, museum representations of Native life and history were told by non-Native “experts” who stood on the outside looking in. They often represented Native cultures as existing in the past, discounting the living cultures of today — cultures whose traditions and lifeways have long been steeped in the humanities. HNA challenged and changed all that. It realized a new standard for seeing and sharing the Native world — from the community’s point of view.

(Santa Fe, New Mexico) --- Palace Seen and Unseen, a new, long-term exhibit opening April 19, 2020, at the New Mexico History Museum, delves into the first 300 years of the Palace of the Governors 400-year history. The guest curators who created the exhibit, Cordelia Snow and Stephen Post have a combined 85 years-experience working with the Palace’s architecture, history and archaeology.
The public opening for Palace Seen and Unseen is Sunday, April 19, from 12-4 p.m. at the Palace of the Governors and is sponsored by the Museum of New Mexico Foundation’s Women’s Board.

Visitors can walk in the footsteps of Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett and other legends of the American West at Lincoln Historic Site, Wednesday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Fort Stanton Historic Site, one of the best preserved frontier forts in America, will be open Tuesday through Sunday. The grounds of Fort Stanton will open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the museum and visitor center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public can learn more about the state’s eight historic sites and plan trips at www.nmhistoricsites.org.

Due to the enormous popularity of the Jemez Historic Site’s breath-taking and beloved annual holiday event, Light Among the Ruins has been expanded to two nights: Saturday Nov. 30 and Dec. 14.
During the event, the ruins of Giusewa Pueblo and San José de los Jemez Mission will be decorated with hundreds of farolitos. Each evening’s program will include traditional Native American flute music and Jemez Pueblo dancers’ performing between two illuminating bon-fires. The Historic Site will also host an arts and crafts fair and have food available for purchase.

(Alcalde, New Mexico) - Experience the magic of northern New Mexico this Holiday season at the Lights of Los Luceros. The event takes place Saturday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Los Luceros Historic Site.
This unique nighttime event allows visitors to stroll the picturesque roads of Los Luceros lit by thousands of glowing farolitos. Entertainment includes Los Matachines de Alcalde and an Indigenous dance group who will perform throughout the evening around aromatic bonfires of piñon.
