Temporary Closing of Here, Now and Always
Tobacco flask, ca. 1935-1940, Gift of Sanford M. Besser
Museum of Indian Arts and Culture/Laboratory of Anthropology, 56765/12
Photography by Addison Doty
Made of spondylus shell and silver, this tobacco flask showcases the artist’s innovation in form and skill in craftsmanship. By fusing two shells together with a scalloped band of stamped silver and twisted wire, the flask breaks stereotypical notions of what Southwestern art is and can be.
