Quail Rattle

From the event:
Audubon Day Celebration

Museum of Indian Arts and Culture

This rattle, from the site of Paquimé (Casas Grandes) Mexico, 1350AD, is decorated with a  bird on top that may be a quail. The rattle is also decorated with unique macaw images, with 5 to 6 macaws in a circle mirrored on both sides of the base, and with additional macaws on the sides of the vessel. Macaws have been extremely important birds to people living in Mexico and the Southwest.
